Houston, I docked the boat!

Houston, er Kemah {& online world} I docked the boat!!!!

For all the established sailors reading this, this will most likely sound like nothing. But, for this girl, it was a major feat!! And, I think I did pretty good for my first time...I even killed a spider {that was crawling around the cockpit} whilst pulling the boat into our slip. That's right. I said, whilst. :-)
[obviously, this isn't me actually docking the boat, but, it's the only photo I had of myself at the helm]

Back to my awesome docking of the boat....we had taken the boat out briefly and I got to {drive it} back to our slip. It was a little nerve-racking, but something I had been wanting to learn.

Sure, I need more practice because the boat was a little crooked. But still, I think I did great for it being my first try!! ;]

I'm learning, I'm learning....before we know it, I'll be a real-life sailor...sailor-ette?!?

Rainy days = sewing days

This post is probably going to be more interesting to our women readers rather than the men.....unless, there's men out there that sew, which I'm sure there is. Joe can sew, though he rarely does. He saves that talent for days when I'm ready to strap dynamite to the sewing machine and throw it overboard {or out the window when we lived on land}.

Seems I have a bit of a blue/green addiction!! :)

Today I'm {attempting} to sew pillow covers for the cockpit pillows{that aren't really pillows}, a yoga mat bag, and I'm revamping our salon curtains.....now I need to get to work!

He cut....
I sewed.....and together, we spruced up our salon curtains!

Then, I whipped up some pillow covers for the cockpit pillows. Which, as I said before, are not really pillows, but rather beach towels rolled up. I think they turned out pretty good!!! Especially, since they started out as kitchen towels from IKEA!
Most items on the boat are dual-purpose items....Meaning, we can't just have 20 million throw pillows{I so wish we could...well, at least we could have twenty pillows} but the towels need someplace to go when not in use, hence the dual-purpose! So, basically, I made pillowcases....but, pillow covers sound way more complex...so that's what I'm going with! :)

Next up, is my yoga mat bag!
After a short geometry lesson from hubs, I  re-purposed my laundry bag into a bag to hold my yoga mat....and, I love it! Now, let's just hope I'm coordinated enough to survive yoga classes!! :/

I'm sure there will be more sewing in our future, but for now, the rain is gone and the sewing machine is back in storage.

Now, it's time to go enjoy the rest of Joe's sunny, warm-weather weekend!!

Boat Project #2 & #3 - Goodbye & Hello

Any boat owner will tell you, there is always something that needs to be worked on, on the boat. Whether it's out of necessity or because it's something you {the boat owner} wants to update.....there is always something!

Lately, we {yes, myself included} have been doing some work on the boat.....see, it's not all fun & games when you live on a boat....ok, most of the time it is!! :)

As you remember, our first project was replacing a set of drawers with a mini-fridge. That was a brilliant idea, we, ahem, I had! ;)

Boat Project #2 - goodbye leaky window
This was done solely, because we had to fix it. This particular window wasn't sealed good and so every time it rained {and it's been raining a lot} it would leak onto the shelf where we keep our books and onto the settee {that's boat speak for couch, for all you non-boat readers}.
Here's Joe with the window completely out so he could scrape off the remaining sealant in order to re-seal the window. Pretty boring, I know. But, it had to be done.
Re-sealing & putting the screws back in place....and it's complete!

Boat Project #3 - hello new companionway doors!!!
We went from something, similar to this below, that consists of three wooden slats that sorta interlock with each other and combined with the top piece, close up shop...so to speak. It was all well & good, but basically just a pain that we were tired of messing with! Not to mention the fact that it also leaked every time it rained. And, it kept the inside of the boat very dark because no light could get in.

So, hubs' put his muscles & tools together and built us these beautiful, companionway doors....that are just beautiful, if I do say so myself AND, they also let light in!!! Double bonus!!
As you can see from his reflection, you cannot see into the boat when standing outside....which I happen to love!

Here's a shot looking outside from in the boat.
What a beauty.....the man and the doors!!! :)
A few more shots of the work in progress....

See my hand in this photo....I really was helping. :)

I <3 my new doors!!!!

What do you think?

Soaking up the tunes!!

Ever since our move to the boat, people have been asking us, what do we miss?   I'm sure they're thinking that we will say, land, or our house, more space, but the answer has always been "nothing, we don't miss a thing, since moving,  {emphasis on the word, 'thing'}.

It wasn't until our recent trip to Fort Worth that we discovered there was something that we missed. What is that thing, you ask? .....the vast, selection of DFW radio stations! The options just don't even compare.
And what I don't understand is, Houston is a big city too, just like the metroplex, but they only have four decent channels. It's crazy!

Everytime we got in the car, we
made sure the radio was turned on {not that it's ever really off}  and that the volume was up loud!

We were almost back to the boat when we heard an old song that Joe swears it was written about him {even though he wasn't born yet}. Maybe you've heard it before, it goes a little something like this......

"Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day.
To know me is to love me.....
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can."

He's right! I don't know anyone that's met him, that doesn't love him! And, I happen to think he gets better looking each day....Yeah, I think I'll keep him around! ; )
